What is Home Care?
Family together

  • Help in maintaining the highest possible level of health and comfort for all ages and conditions at home.
  • Supportive services, equipment and supplies provided to individuals in their homes on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Services of professionals such as nurses, therapists, pharmacists, home health aides and homemakers.
  • Case management, social worker services, patient and family education, respite care, live-in care, transportation, home infusion pharmacy, laboratory and nutritional counseling.
  • Home medical equipment including hospital beds, wheelchairs, oxygen and respiratory equipment, emergency response devices and other supplies.

Why is Home Care a Good Choice?

Home care is often a better alternative than other forms of acute or long term care, such as hospitalization or placement in a nursing facility, because:

  • Patients recover more quickly at home.
  • Home Care promotes family independence.
  • Patients and families prefer home care.
  • Home care is usually less costly than hospital or skilled nursing facility care.
  • New medical technologies and specialized services are increasingly available through home care providers. Woman arranging flowers
